AWG Screenwriters Fringe in Feb 09!

January 10th 2009 00:39
: AWG | Where To Next?
.. SO YOU WANT TO WRITE FOR THE BIG (or small) SCREEN ..

then get along to the AWG Screenwriters Fringe in Feb 09!

If your dream is to one day see your name in the credits of a film or TV series, then don't miss the chance to capitalize on the arrival into Adelaide next February of some of the biggest names in the screenwriting business from around the world.

The Australian Writers' Guild
(AWG), in partnership with the Media Resource Centre, will present the inaugural AWG Screenwriters Fringe 09 event from February 24-25. Leading up to the 2009 National Screenwriters' Conference (in the Barossa Valley from Feb 25-27), the AWG Screenwriters Fringe will draw its speaker talent from the conference - but its program targets the emerging screenwriter.

The National Screenwriters Conference is a respected annual event for established screenwriters, which attracts an extremely high calibre of presenters
, says Ms Gail Kovatseff, Director, Media Resource Centre. We're delighted the AWG is giving us access to so many of their conference speakers, so we can present this fringe program that caters both from a budget and content perspective - for up-and-coming screenwriters.

Presented in the intimate setting of Adelaide's Mercury Cinema and with a theme of Where To Next? The Screenwriter's Journey, the AWG Screenwriters Fringe will give aspiring writers and storytellers the chance to find out how some of Australia and the world's most successful screenwriters took their own first steps 'up the ladder'. Confirmed speakers to date include American screenwriter David Weiss (Shrek 2, Clockstoppers, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and Rugrats in Paris: The Movie) and Australia's Andrew Bovell (Edge of Darkness, Lantana, Blessed, Head On) and Tim Pye (Blackjack, Water Rats, Wildside) with more names to be announced shortly.

In addition to relaxed, forum-style sessions where participants can get up close and personal with presenters, the AWG Screenwriters Fringe will also present a dedicated screening program. Films shown will be accompanied by Q&As with the actual screenwriter who will give insights into the development and production of their script. Best of all, at just $100 (maximum) to attend - registering for the two-day event won't break the budget.

Were thrilled to be partnering with the Media Resource Centre to present the inaugural Screenwriters Fringe in conjunction with the 2009 National Screenwriters Conference said AWGs Executive Director, Jacqueline Woodman. This special event is a demonstration of the Guilds commitment to supporting new and emerging talent, support that is vital for building and maintaining a vibrant Australian screen industry.
