THE MERGER | SPORTMAN'S NIGHT 2
Damian Callinan is in Adelaide this Fringe Festival in search of recruits for the Bodgy Creek Footy Team but he's not looking where you might think!
In a sequel to his multi-award winning Sportsman's Night, Damian revisits the dysfunctional Bodgy Creek Football Club. The township has seen better days - the mill is closed; the Tidy Town sign has fallen into the long grass and the weir is as dry as a spinster's gusset. The dying town is about to claim its next victim. Unable to field even one full side, the footy club will either have to fold or merge with their arch rivals - the Hudson's Flat Redbacks. But prodigal son coach Troy Carrington has other ideas; to save the club and serve his socially aware agenda, he embarks on a program to recruit players from the Asylum Seekers Refuge Centre. Will the new players cope with pre season training whilst fasting for Ramadan?
Premiering at the Adelaide Fringe, The Merger - Sportsman's Night 2 will kick off a big 2010 for Callinan who will also be touring the nation with his solo show The Cave The Rave as well as completing the pilot of his eagerly awaited ABC TV kids comedy show OOSH alongside Adelaide's Mickey D. A TV regular, you may have caught Damian on Skithouse (Channel Nine), or Comedy Slap Down (The Comedy Channel), and appropriately on Before the Game (Network Ten).
The last couple of years have cemented Damian's reputation for outstanding solo comedy shows with extensive theatre tours of his biographical Spaznuts; Last Drinks; 'Sportsman's Night and has recently wrapped up a solo stand up tour of Victoria's bushfire communities.
