Aidan O'Bryan and Stuart Parkyn selected for Screen Australia New York producer internships
Tuesday 14 September 2010: Screen Australia today announced producer Aidan O'Bryan as the recipient of an internship with New York production company Belladonna and producer Stuart Parkyn as the recipient of an internship with Killer Films.
Aidan and Stuart will both receive $60,000 from Screen Australia to spend six months in New York working in the development and production departments of Belladonna and Killer Films respectively.
"We are so thrilled at the selection of Aidan and Stuart from a very high standard of applicants," said Martha Coleman, Head of Development at Screen Australia. "Exposure at this time to the independent film scene in New York, under the guidance of Rene Bastian at Belladonna and David Kaplan at Killer Films, will provide Aidan and Stuart with an experience they can relate directly to the Australian landscape. Both Aidan and Stuart have produced consistently high-quality work and this exceptional opportunity comes at a time for each of them that will enhance their advancement through to the next stage in their careers."
Aidan O'Bryan's acclaimed first feature, Wasted on the Young, is currently screening in Toronto and will also appear at the Pusan International Film Festival next month.
Stuart Parkyn's short films include Cannes Jury Prize winner Jerrycan and the Academy Award nominated The Saviour.
Screen Australia's New York Producer Internships were open to producers with a proven capacity for creative excellence at two levels of experience: those who had already produced a feature film, and those who had produced multiple shorts. .
A third New York production company, Likely Story, had to withdraw reluctantly from the program in August because of visa requirement issues. However, Screen Australia looks forward to providing similar opportunities in the future.
