Poets & Pizza
Friday 3 September 2010
6.30pm til late (live poetry begins at 7pm)
Coriole Vineyards Chaffeys Road, McLaren Vale
Four South Australian poets invite you to share their wicked sense of humour at Coriole Vineyard's Poets & Pizza evening.
Based on their raucous poetry and ability to entertain a crowd, four South Australian poets have been selected by the SA Writers Centre to perform live at Coriole's Poets & Pizza event. The entertaining evening is part of the Poetry Unleashed Festival, presented by the City of Onkaparinga to highlight the talents of leading South Australian poets.
The highly acclaimed poets performing their new works live are: David Cookson, Geoff Goodfellow, Alice Sladdin and Jill Wherry.
David Cookson's poetry and prose has been published in a range of local and interstate publications. His work has been included in all but one of the Friendly Street Poets' famous anthologies, which have been printed annually since 1989.
Geoff Goodfellow has been writing and publishing poetry for over 25 years. He is well known for his readings in schools, colleges, jails, building and construction sites, factories, police departments, homes for the criminally insane and corporate boardrooms. His poem 'Finding Myself' was selected for The Best Australian Poetry 2009. Geoff also featured in 'Bush Slam', the ABC TV series hosted by H.G.Nelson, where he defeated James Blundell in their prose encounter.
Alice Sladdin regularly presents live poetry and has had her poetry published. Alice won the 2005 'Bundey Prize for English Verse'.
Jill Wherry is a bush poet whose hugely funny works feature rhythm and rhyme. A number of Jill's limericks and comic poems have been published and have won prizes. In 2005 she won the SA Performance Bush Poetry Championships and in both 2006 and 2007 she won the Original Humorous section of the Championships.
Warm yourself by the open fire, enjoy delicious wood oven pizza and Coriole's award winning wines, as leading South Australian poets entertain you with their outstanding wit.
Tickets: $40 per person - includes live poetry and food (entree, pizza, dessert and coffee). Coriole wines are available for purchase by the glass or bottle.
