A PROPHET (MA15 )155m season commences February 11

Condemned to six years in prison, Malik El Djebena (Tahar Rahim), part Arab, part Corsican, cannot read or write. Arriving at the jail entirely alone, he appears younger and more fragile than the other convicts. He is 19 years old. Cornered by the leader of the Corsican gang currently ruling the prison, he is given a number of "missions" to carry out, toughening him up and gaining the gang leader's confidence in the process. Malik is a fast learner and rises up the prison ranks, all the while secretly devising his own plans.
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

VALENTINES DAY season commences February 11

Director Garry Marshall (Pretty Woman) directs a star-studded ensemble cast, including Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Bradley Cooper, Patrick Dempsey, Shirley MacLaine, Queen Latifah and Jamie Foxx. Valentine's Day follows intertwining couples and singles in Los Angeles as they break up and make up based on the pressures and expectations of Valentine's Day.


IT MIGHT GET LOUD (PG) 97m season commences February 11
Three generations of electric guitar virtuosos - The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes) - reveal how each musician developed his unique sound and style of playing favourite instruments; guitars both found and invented. Director Davis Guggenheim's (An Inconvenient Truth) film lets you witness intimate moments and hear new music from each artist while revolving around a day when Jimmy Page, Jack White and The Edge first met and sat down together to share their stories, teach and play.

THE HURT LOCKER (MA15 ) 131m season commences February 18

The Hurt Locker is a riveting, suspenseful portrait of the courage under fire of the military's most unrecognized heroes: the technicians of the bomb squad, who volunteer to challenge the odds and save lives in one of the world's most dangerous places. Three members of the Army's elite Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad battle insurgents and each other as they seek out and disarm a wave of roadside bombs on the streets of Baghdad. Director Kathryn Bigelow has made a crackerjack action picture that is also a drama of character, psychology and ideas. Jeremy Renner, as a soldier who approaches the danger with the conviction of an artist and the compulsiveness of an addict, is simply amazing, and the rest of the case including Guy Pearce and Ralph Fiennes is nearly as strong.

SHUTTER ISLAND (MA15 ) 138m season commences February 18

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio team up for a fourth time for this adaptation of a novel by Dennis LeHane (MYSTIC RIVER). Set in 1954, US Marshals Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) are investigating the disappearance of a murderer that escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island. Also stars Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Emily Mortimer, Max von Sydow, Patricia Clarkson.

CRAZY HEART (M) 111m season commences February 18

Four-time Academy Award nominee Jeff Bridges stars as the richly comic, romantic anti-hero Bad Blake in the debut feature film Crazy Heart from writer-director Scott Cooper. Bad Blake is a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who's had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. And yet, Bad can't help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician. As he struggles down the road of redemption, Bad learns the hard way just how tough life can be on one man's crazy heart.

A SINGLE MAN 99m season commences February 25

Torn apart by the shattering impact of the death of his long-time lover, college professor George Falconer (Colin Firth) experiences the most transformational day of his life, blending past and present, desire and despair, and discovering that love persists even after the object of love is gone. Set in a sun-drenched 1960s California coastal canyon, featuring revealing performances by Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode. This is the directorial debut by designer Tom Ford from a novel by Christopher Isherwood. Colin Firth won best actor at the Venice Film Festival for this role.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND season commences March 4

From Walt Disney Pictures and visionary director Tim Burton comes an epic fantasy adventure ALICE IN WONDERLAND, a magical and imaginative twist on some of the most beloved stories of all time. Johnny Depp stars as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as 19-year-old Alice, who returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter. Alice embarks on a fantastical journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen’s reign of terror. The all-star cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Crispin Glover.


THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS 94m season commences March 4


Based on the book by Jon Ronson. A reporter (Ewan McGregor), trying to lose himself in the romance of war after his marriage fails, gets more than he bargains for when he meets a special forces agent who reveals the existence of a secret, psychic military unit whose goal is to end war as we know it. The founder of the unit has gone missing and the trail leads to another psychic soldier who has distorted the mission to serve his own ends. He might just have the story of a lifetime when he meets Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), who claims to be a former member of the U.S. Army's First Earth Battalion, a unit that employs paranormal powers in their missions.

GREEN ZONE 115m season commencs March 11

Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, United 93) re-team for their latest electrifying thriller in Green Zone, a film set in the chaotic early days of the Iraqi War when no one could be trusted and every decision could detonate unforeseen consequences. During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission.
