RICH HALL
Blistering spontaneity, excruciatingly funny banter and heckler put-downs as mortifying as an electric chair. The Guardian, UK
Brushy Mountain Prison inmate, Otis Lee Crenshaw makes his long-awaited return to Adelaide
OTIS LEE CRENSHAW AND HIS BAND WITH SPECIAL GUEST SUPPORT ACT RICH HALL
For seven long, bad, empty years, Adelaide has been waiting for a hero. And direct from Brushy Mountain Prison, Tennessee he comes - bandanna on head, band in tow, with yet another wife called Brenda - and more pissed than a cut snake soaked in bourbon. Premier grouchy genius and hottest ticket in Edinburgh, Rich Hall first brought his redneck country and western singer from Memphis, Tennessee, to Adelaide in 2002.
Otis Lee Crenshaw - singer, songwriter, jailbird and womanizer - made his world premiere at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 1998. He has since been charming sold-out audiences each year at the Edinburgh Festival, touring throughout the UK, including London's famous Comedy Store. At the 2000 Edinburgh Festival, Rich Hall as Otis Lee Crenshaw won the highly prestigious Perrier Award.
Otis has been married six times, all to women called Brenda. He's got his own his trusty and able backing musos, Myron Buttram and Dave Lindsay, he writes whiskey-soaked Tom Waits-ian tunes, and it's for his between-song audience banter as much as his songwriting and performing skills that he is best known.
Looking like a Pearl Jam roadie, Otis' alter ego Rich is a master of absurdist irony while eschewing the human condition, with particular focus on the American lifestyle.
The greatest live comedian on earth. Next to Otis all other comics seem one-dimensional.
