The Helpmann Academy and SA Living Artists Inc. are offering three emerging moving image artists a fantastic professional development opportunity during the 2010 SALA Festival.
Open to current students or graduates from a Helpmann Academy partner, artists participating in the program will work under the guidance of SALA Moving Image Project Curator Karen Paris, to create and present moving image artworks during the three-week Festival period.
In the lead up to SALA, moving image artist Lachlan Tetley-Stuart will develop a pixelated artwork to be exhibited on the Rundle Street Lantern during the Festival. Lachlan will also help coordinate workshops to instruct interested artists in making pixelation artwork and mentor other artists to create an artwork for the Rundle Street Lantern.
Adelaide College of the Arts graduate Lorelei Siegloff has been chosen to act as a peer mentor to homeless youth from Service to Youth Council (SYC). Lorelei will work to develop moving image artworks that will be exhibited at the Queens Street Theatre during the SALA Moving Image Project.
Similarly, Adelaide filmmaker Tracy Baron has been selected to act as a secondary student project mentor to assist high school students as they develop moving image artworks, all of which will be exhibited at the Queens Street Theatre during the Moving Image Project.
"The establishment of dynamic partnerships and initiatives such as the SALA Festival and Helpmann Academy's Moving Image Project will ensure ongoing and sustainable pathways for our emerging artists to further develop their confidence and industry exposure," says SALA General Manager Penny McAuley.
"The design and delivery of such outstanding outcome-based projects represent the contribution of diverse participants of varied experiences and exposure to the visual arts. Benefiting both organisations, these experiences add value to what we are able to provide our artists and demonstrate our commitment to the ongoing development of industry pathways."
The 2010 SALA Festival is set to become the largest visual artists' festival in the country, with a record number of artists registered and the festival period extended by one week. The SALA Moving Image Project 2010 is an exciting annual showcase of the work of established and emerging moving image, performance and installation artists in South Australia.
