Moments in Time
1 - 22 August 2010
Opening 2pm Sunday 1 August 2010
18 Peel Street, Adelaide
Lustre Galleries presents jewellery and glass works for their 2010 SALA exhibition.
Memories, mementos, mirrors - Briana Lawrence transforms photographs from her friends into wearable jewellery mementos. Stephen Skillitzi creates sculptural-glass pieces to reflect moments in life. Mediums include jewellery and glass.
Briana Lawrence
Rising jewellery star Briana Lawrence will present a series of jewellery which she calls wearable art.
She explains: "Different images mean different things to different people. Rather than use images I immediately related to, I wanted to look through the eyes of the eople around me, namely my friends. I chose photographs that they had taken purposefully with the aim of preserving beauty, a happy memory or a pure expression of creativity. The exact feeling can only be known by the one behind the camera. My aim is to transform the photos into wearable pieces of art that could then hold a meaning that is entirely different to someone else."

Stephen is principal of Glass Earth and Fire Studio in Brighton S.A. where he practices glass, metal and clay art.
He graduated from the National Art School, Sydney in 1966 and gained a masters degree in Fine Art, University of Massachusetts, USA in 1970. He returned to Australia in 1970 to become one of the pioneers of artistic-glass furnace blowing and has been dubbed Father of Australian Studio Glass.
He has explored in a variety of scales from domestic to monumental. Recent blown glass explores a unique complexity of colour and design. Stephen, recognized for his defiance of conventional practice, is one of Australia's most influential glass artists.
He has carved a reputation for professional leadership and creative innovation, and divides opinion with his individual style of expression, his robust delight in excess and in pitting opposing qualities against each other.
