JULIAN CLARY
LORD OF THE MINCE
Like a scene from an Arthur Freed motion picture set on the Great White Way, I once found myself intimately embarrassed in Julian Clary's private quaters. It was the early days in my ex relationship, with my dear ex partner Sprig.
The two of us mismanaged a relationship that has been quoted by mutual friends as being spectacularly disastrous. We had been sitting through Julian Clary's entertainment at a grand old theatre in Sydney; the show was joyously amusing, if not at times a little irritating, for innuendo comedy can get a little repetitive. The audience, a legendary Sydney Mardi Gras opening night crowd essentially left no seat unsoiled by the end of the show.
I had interviewed Julian for a rag, or over the phone for my radio show and consequently been supplied an opening night pass; I was thinking of hanging around after the show to see if Julian was going to receive anyone but it seemed doubtful he would as his arm was in a cast. It was some kind of break or fracture resulting from arsing about as far as I recall.
Julian had only just cracked it, and was in obvious pain during the show as the pain killers were wearing off. Anyway it made the idea of pressing his flesh later a bit doubtful.
Sprig and I were exiting slowly as the auditorium emptied and bless his heart, Sprig was eager to meet the star despite my suggestions that it may not happen. Before I really knew what was going down, Sprig had scurried away, climbed the stairs at the front of the stage and vanished behind the curtain.
Actually I think I had headed to the stage door to leave a note requesting an interview maybe, and it was in Adelaide at Her Majesty's Theatre.
Any way, rather than open an old wound, Ill just get to the news.
Comedian, compare and commentator extraordinaire Julian Clary will soon be springing his latest hit show on Australian audiences when he returns for his 7th Australian Tour (six years since his last).
JULIAN CLARY will bring his brand new show LORD OF THE MINCE to Australia in April.
He wasnt having performed over 50 sold out shows across the UK to rave reviews. Julian Clary feels it is his absolute duty to now satisfy his Australian fans.
Since graduating from Goldsmiths College University, London in the 80's with a degree in English Drama, Julian Clary has gone on to become one of Englands most recognisable entertainers, and during his 25 years in show business has turned his hand to comedy, acting, presenting, writing and even performing as a novice dancer on the BBCs Strictly Come Dancing, where he reached the final.
Julian has come a long way since his early days as a singing telegram boy and teenage sausage dog. He is best known in Australia for his television shows Terry and Julian and the cult hit Sticky Moments on the ABC.
He has toured the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand many times and also appeared in Boy Georges memorable West End musical, Taboo, and as the Emcee in Cabaret at London's Lyric Theatre. His indelible impact on the entertainment world was recognised in 2001 when he was awarded the big red book by Michael Aspel on This Is Your Life.
His autobiography, A Young Mans Passage, was published in June 2006 and was a Sunday Times bestseller, and his first novel, Murder Most Fab, was published in 2007. His second novel, Devil In Disguise, was published in May 2009.
Needless to say Julian Clary cant wait to be here.
Dress code is smart but casual, although the usual rules about corduroy trousers still apply.

I, Julian Clary, have done for mincing what Michael Flatley did for Irish dancing. But has the bottom fallen out of the homosexual meat market? I must tour my kingdom to find out. In these difficult times I feel I should go and comfort my people in the provinces. My friend Damien tells me the men are very hard up in Sheffield. I only hope I'm not too late.

Lots of camp smut and double entendres this show doesn't disappoint he was side splittingly hilarious

Im 50. The shame of it. This will be an intimate evening a celebration, no less, of my twentyfive years in the camp spotlight: how I got there and why I refuse to leave. Come and see me before they put me in a home for tired old knackers.

His persona of camp superciliousness is effortlessly amusing Clarys genius is to find sexual suggestion where the rest of us wouldn't think of looking
