Heart Fabrication - an intimate workshop with Jorge Orta
A group of eight emerging South Australian artists have been chosen by the Adelaide Festival and the Helpmann Academy for the Visual & Performing Arts to take part in an intimate series of workshops with international artist Jorge Orta in the lead up to the 2010 Adelaide Festival of Arts.
As part of the Adelaide Festival Artists' Week / Helpmann Academy workshop program, these emerging artists will have the rare opportunity to work directly with Jorge Orta during intensive, hands-on sessions. Titled Heart Fabrication, the workshops will introduce key aspects of how to build community and relational aesthetics, and assist in preparation for the Lucy and Jorge Orta exhibition at the JamFactory as part of the Festival's Adelaide International 2010: Apart, we are together.
The workshops will be running over a two-week period, starting Monday February 8 and concluding on Friday February 19.
Artists selected to take part include Matt Huppatz, Laura Wills and Liz Hetzel (all graduates of the South Australian School of Art), Sonali Patel (a graduate of the Adelaide College of the Arts), as well as Sally Parnis, Lucy Turnbull and Lyn Wood (all graduates of the Adelaide Central School of Art).
Lucy and Jorge Orta have commented, to make a link with the heart is to form the vital connection that fosters our relationship to others through dialogue and action.
Their work often arises from events initiated in the public realm that combine practitioners from diverse backgrounds, such as the creative disciplines of art, fashion, design and architecture, and individuals drawn from humanitarian, immigrant and refugee groups, says Victoria Lynn, Curator of the Visual Arts Program 2010 Adelaide Festival. The Ortas' art is created and situated in a way that both traces and interprets these shared experiences, while valuing multiple interpretations.
The Adelaide Festival Corporation and the Helpmann Academy have formed a partnership to provide an outstanding opportunity for emerging artists during the Adelaide Festival 2010 Artists' Week. The program offers emerging artists the chance to take part in professional workshops with major international artists presented in the Visual Arts Program of the 2010 Adelaide Festival.
