Don Dunstan Party fund raising event

January 17th 2009 01:35
: Don's Party | DDF | fund raising event

We are starting our 10th year with a party. Don's Party will be an event - our meeting together and our conversation. Come and join us to honor the lasting impact of the great Don Dunstan and to look to our future and to the society we wish to create for future generations of Australians.

Claire Bossley

Executive Officer
The Don Dunstan Foundation

10 years on to honor the memory of Don Dunstan to celebrate his achievements and look to our future The Don Dunstan Foundation plans to mark its 2009 program, true to the memory of Don Dunstan, with style, and an underpinning of serious reflection. The first fund raising event for 2009 will be Don's Party to be held at the Norwood Concert Hall on Friday 6 February from 6pm.

This event marks the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the Foundation. It also marks the 10th anniversary of Don's death. The words Don's Party also denote the title of a play by Australia's best known playwright David Williamson. We are not doing the play, but we are having a party. For his part, David Williamson has given gracious permission to use his play's title. David honors the man who was Don Dunstan and is writing a special Ode to Don.

You can buy your tickets online using MasterCard or Visa at mybookingmanager.com/donsparty. Alternatively, you can arrange your purchase via the DDF office on 8303 3364.

There will be music and nibbles, as well as drinks at the bar and some very special guests including:

The Hon Mike Rann - will he wear flares?

Legendary Australian author and playwright David Williamson has penned a special Ode to Don to be performed by a guest artist.

Revisiting the speech Don Dunstan gave when he opened The Playhouse - now called the Dunstan Playhouse.

Music by Fang Coup - an amalgam of musically gifted dentists drilling down on music of the 70's - all puns intended.

Highlights of the transformational initiatives of the Dunstan era - history, constitutional reform, aboriginal rights, arts, film, - and food and beverage - remember the end of the 6 o'clock swill!

A novelty prize for the most authentic 70's outfit!

The stage will be dressed by our friends at the State Theatre Company - established in 1972 and whose principal home is of course the Dunstan Playhouse.
