Outdoor Dining Permit holders offered discount for No Smoking
Adelaide City Council is trialling a landmark incentive scheme to encourage permit holders to eliminate smoking in their outdoor dining areas.
Endorsed at last week's Council meeting, traders can choose to receive a 50percent reduction in their fees if they enforce a no-smoking policy in their outdoor dining permit area. "The trial is not compulsory but gives permit holders the option to make their outdoor dining area smoke-free," Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said.
"This is just one way Council is working with traders to encourage more outdoor dining in the city."
The 12 month trial comes into effect in August and all permit holders will be notified of the incentive by mail. At the end of the year, a report will be delivered back to Council on the effectiveness of the scheme.
Council is also reviewing its current Outdoor Dining Policy in an effort to activate the city and bring vacant laneways and public spaces to life.
"Adelaide has a great climate for outdoor dining - the more people who get out and enjoy the outdoors, the better," Stephen said.
"We want to make it easier for traders to take their dining services outdoors. This is part of a wider commitment to improve our mainstreet precincts and bring about change that people want to see."
"We are also working on reducing red tape and simplifying our processes for local businesses - something I am passionate about implementing."
