Crystal Thomas & The Flowers Of Evil
Melbourne singer song writer Crystal Thomas mysterious lyrical charm seduces you into her sinister sing-a-long stories of suffering, hope, desire, deception, and other tricks kept up beauty's sleeve. The brooding and haunting musical landscape she creates is tenderly exploited by the incredible talents of her band The Flowers Of Evil.
Crystal is taking her band to the road in October to perform songs off their recently released self-titled debut album (out now on Stovepipe Records) performing in Adelaide, Sydney and her home town of Melbourne.
Crystal Thomas & The Flowers of Evil features the talents of former Moodist and current Lurid Yellow Mist member Clare Moore, drums, percussion & vocals; Dan Brodie (of The Broken Arrows) keys, piano and vocals; Johanna Brockman (James McCannÂs Dirty Skirt band) sonic landscaping on electric guitar; Matt Green (The PaesanoÂs & Krista PolvereÂs band) electric guitar, mandolin, dobro and vocals; and Tim McCormack (Downhills Home) upright and electric bass.
As the band name suggests, her music explores the dark side of natures' beauty and fragility infused with a resilient strength. The album also features guest performances by musical friends Conway Savage (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), Rui Pereira (The Drones), Jen Anderson, Matt Walker & Liz Stringer.
Crystal Thomas & The Flowers Of Evil have spent the last year in Matt WalkerÂs studio the 8 Track Shack recording their debut album, with Matt at the helm as mentor and producer. The songs can sometimes be delicate (No Vacancy, The Heat is Rising) or emotive (Beauty and the Magician, Little Blue Flowers), but at other times show that this band can rock too (Pretty Pink Clouds, No Return).
CrystalÂs past gigs include appearances with Tim Rogers, Spencer P Jones, the Darling Downs, Matt Walker, Jeff Lang, Tex Perkins, Bill Chambers, Don Walker, Black Pony Express, Dave Graney, Penny Ikinger, Loene Carmen, Lillith Lane, Poker Hearts, Ian Rilen and The Love Addicts, James McCann, The Vandas, Brian Hooper and more.
