Immerse yourself in music at the 2010 Coriole Music Festival, a weekend of Bach and Beethoven by some of Australia's finest musicians.

The annual Coriole Music Festival is a weekend celebration of outstanding chamber music performed in Coriole's acoustically stunning Barrel Room. The twelfth Coriole Music Festival brings together some of the finest chamber musicians from around Australia to explore instrumental works by JS Bach, the development of Beethoven's writing for string quartet, and French music for flute and harp.

Performers selected by Music Director, Professor Christopher Burrell include; the critically acclaimed Goldner String Quartet; renowned cellist, Julian Smiles; one of the world's leading harp soloists, Alice Giles (pictured); highly awarded pianist and composer Ian Munro; former principal flutist for the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Geoffrey Collins; and outstanding clarinet player Dean Newcomb.

Beethoven's String Quartets make up one of the extraordinary pinnacles of western music, said Music Director, Professor Christopher Burrell. This year we will hear three quartets that trace the development from his early more formal writing to the intense expressive freedom of his late quartets.

Audiences will also hear instrumental music of JS Bach, including two of the wonderful suites for solo cello and the flute sonata in B minor. As a contrast, music for harp and flute by French impressionist composers will explore how the sonority of the harp matches this musical idiom. This will include pieces by Debussy, Faure and Ibert, and Ravel's Introduction and Allegro for string quartet, flute, clarinet and harp, a work of ethereal and enchanting beauty.

The 2010 Coriole Music Festival will also feature the Goldner String Quartet performing the world premiere of a new quartet composed by Ian Munro. The Coriole Music Festival and Friends commissioned the quartet for the Festival and for Musica Viva Australia.

Following each concert Tina Llewellyn from The Rolling Pin will present a delicious three-course meal created from local South Australian produce and accompanied by a selection of Coriole's own highly awarded wines. The informal meals in the Coriole courtyard are a great opportunity for the musicians and the audience to get to know each other.

Explore your senses with a great weekend of fine music, food and wine in Coriole Vineyard's beautiful courtyard and gardens, in the renowned McLaren Vale winery region of South Australia.
