Bruce Wilson Gallery at O'Halloran Hill celebrates its ten-year anniversary as a student-run gallery during the SALA Festival.
Graduating Vizarts students at TAFE SA's O'Halloran Hill Campus have embraced the SALA Festival as an opportunity to celebrate a special anniversary for the Bruce Wilson Gallery. Chapter Ten exhibition celebrates the tenth anniversary of the space as a student-run gallery - the longest running and only student-run art space currently in an art school in South Australia.
The gallery was named after the gifted and devoted lecturer Bruce Wilson. A lecturer in the Visual Arts program at the O'Halloran Hill campus for 17 years, Bruce died suddenly from a heart attack on 29 May 2000. It was his determination, dedicated lobbying and fundraising that helped to furnish the gallery ready for opening at the end of 1992.
In 1998 a group of enterprising art students suggested running the gallery as a student exhibition venue with regular changing shows. This was such a success that it is now part of the Vizarts teaching program.
A number of graduates from the past decade have been invited to exhibit in Chapter Ten including: Jillian Gregurke, Heather Young, Katrina Simmons, Michele Nooteboom, Nova Smith, Sean McGovern and Canberra-based Karin Woithe. Their works will be shown alongside the new artwork of soon-to-be-graduating artists, including: Amelia Pickard, Jaynie Langford, Hannah Carlyle, Scott James, Georgina Mills and Heidi Karo.
Chapter Ten presents jewellery, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, drawing, photography and painting. Visitors will have a great opportunity to see a range of contemporary works from a diverse group of artists in one location.
TAFE SA Vizarts, O'Halloran Hill Campus is a Helpmann Academy partner school.
