Threshold for Sara is an insightful and sometimes humorous exploration of what many consider a taboo subject, self-harm.
Threshold for Sara follows a long-term cutting addicts digression towards rock bottom. The performance utilizes a realistic storyline coupled with postmodern expression.
The original play shows the events leading up to a turning point in the life of a young woman, Sara, exploring her past demons, relationships, fantasies and an unlikely situation that develops out of her mundane job at a 24-hour store.
Presented by actors and co-creators Kurt Murray, Nina Pierce and Paul Herbert Threshold for Sara is the premiere work by new theatre ensemble Bad Company. Original music for the performance was created by Matthew Vecchio, with multimedia by Flinders University Screen Production students Patrick Lang and Jane Baird.
Comprised of Flinders University Drama Centre graduates, Bad Company brings audiences a new experience in live entertainment with a focus on issues experienced by adolescents and young adults. "This project aims to not only tackle a very dark theme but also to create a new work that can introduce postmodern theatre in an accessible way to a younger generation," says Kurt Murray.
"We have developed the piece from research of people suffering from self-harm, medical statistics and personal experiences submitted by anonymous sources."
Threshold for Sara is supported by a Helpmann Academy grant. Flinders University Drama Centre and Screen Production are Helpmann Academy partner schools.
