100th Anniversary of the Alliance Francaise in Adelaide

Oh those French know how to celebrate! They have they assembled their most intoxicating movie line-up to date to mark the 21st anniversary of the wildly popular Alliance Francaise French Film Festival, and this year will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Alliance Francaise in Adelaide.

21st Alliance Francaise French Film Festival

This year in Adelaide, due to demand, more sessions have been added to the programme a third more screenings than last year.

The opening night film will be MICMACS (Micmacs a tire-larigot) the latest release from renowned French filmmaker, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, internationally famed for the gorgeously romantic AMELIE. Acclaimed by critics and starring Dany Boon, Yolande Moreau, & Julie Ferrier, MICMACS, which Jeunet directed and co-wrote, is a wildly inventive comedy which follows the adventures of a group of misfits with unique foibles and abilities, determined to vanquish two big arms manufacturers. Stamped with Jeunet's unique style and vision, MICMACS is a film not to be missed.

Special guest of the Festival in Adelaide will be director Jan Kounen who will introduce a screening of his new film COCO CHANEL & IGOR STRAVINSKY on Sunday March 28. Picking up the story of Chanel more or less from where Anne Fontaine's COCO AVANT CHANEL left off, director Kounen beautifully captures the charisma of two monumental personalities against the opulent backdrops of 1920s Paris as they embark upon a passionate affair that threatens to consume them both. Kounen will also host a Q&A discussion following the screening.

The Festival will screen throughout March around Australia at fourteen venues and is be proudly supported by Tefal, the acknowledged world-leader in non-stick cookware, who will once again be the event's major sponsor. It is the largest foreign film festival in Australia.

For the first time in its 21-year history, the Festival will feature six distinctive sections, encompassing a range of genres that will showcase a record-breaking forty-three new features. The festival continues to grow from strength, encapsulating a growing international interest in French Cinema.
