German Humour:
Award winning German Comedy Ambassador, Henning Wehn and the Fatherland's foremost Yodelmeister (and Bavaria's funniest man), Otto Kuhnle present the Adelaide premiere of 1000 Years of German Comedy, the show that took the Edinburgh Festival by storm (troopers).
This night of teutonic jolliness, plays at the Caos Café 188 Hindley Street from 27 February to 20 March. Tickets are from $23 and maybe purchased through Fringetix and online ... so schnell lieblings!
Expect in-depth stand-up analysis of humouristic evergreens such as spilling beer, eating your sausage with sauce rather than mustard, and appreciating the music of German comedy great Richard Wagner and those screams, The Brothers Grimm.
Then there are Fritz, Hans and Horst (the wurst one) the gnomes. Herr Kuhnle has the unique gift of being able to speak with them.
Foreign critics and audiences are slowly coming round to appreciate real German humour. Herr Kuhnle's trouser dropping interpretation of Bach Badinerie, was nominated for the inaugural Malcolm Hardee Award at the 2008 Edinburgh Festival. Truly wunderbar that he manages to combine his profession with his hobby (and what a hit that was in Argentina too!)
Henning Wehn adds, 'our show will also focus on the six iron rules of German Humour:
1) Be arrogant.
2) No self-deprecation.
3) Never ever laugh with failure.
4) Don't mention the war.
5) Physical humour is best.
6) Stand-up comedy is pointless.
And, to avoid disappointment it has to be made clear that 1000 Years of German Humour will not be in real time. Instead the infotainment has been crammed into action packed 3712 seconds on ze dot as timing is the secret of German comedy. Jawohl!
You will visit them or they will visit you. Deutschland über alles!
